Depository safes, or referred to as drop / slot safes, are most commonly used in the retail industry, restaurants, churches, and other locations that deal with large amounts of cash and checks or other secure information. Primary features for a drop safe are a drop slot, a depository door, a drop chute for depositing cash, and even envelope storage from time to time. Once a deposit is made into a depository safe, it can't be retrieved until the door to the safe is unlocked. There are many different options for locking devices from key locks, dial combination locks, electronic locks, or even a fingerprint biometric lock.

Most drop safes can be bolted to the floor or other secure surfaces such as under a counter.
